Welcome to Alleycat Fishing

"We still have some of the most exciting fishing anywhere on offer, grand slams, super slams and even fantasy slams on billfish are a very real dream here, grand slams and super slams are very possible off he Kenya Coast. Alleycat has had a number of super slams over the years, and in February 2015 we caught a 91 lb Blue Marlin."

A Basic Fishing Itinerary

Meet evening before if possible to discuss what you want to fish for. We then meet at Ocean Sports Hotel between 6 and 6.30am. Board boats 6.30am and depart for the fishing area depending on what you are fishing for. We provide a cool box of assorted soft drinks, mineral water and beers. Clients are requested to bring their own packed lunches as we do not provide these. If a good eating fish is caught we will cook this on board for you. We also recommend you bring suntan lotion, a hat and clothing that will protect you from the sun.

Info

"My passion for fishing started when I was about 4 years old when my father took us on a family fishing trip to lake Naivasha where we caught large mouth bass, from that day the seed had been sown and any chance I had I would be fishing no matter where, ponds, dams, lakes, rivers and of course the sea. I was fortunate that my Dad had a passion for fishing and he built his own Sport fishing boat that he kept at Watamu, from this boat I was given the chance to experience the world of big game fishing and I have never looked back. I started my professional career as a sport fishing mate on David Slater's 32 feet Hartley called Honeylulu, I was 16 years old. David was considered one of the top Captains off the Kenya coast at this time and I gained invaluable knowledge from him.

Not long after I joined David I was given the opportunity to Skipper Honeylulu as a new 43 feet Bertram had just arrived which David was going to run. The season I ran Honeylulu convinced me that this was the life I wanted, so here I am today still in Watamu and still fishing."

Fishing techniques

Trolling

Trolling lures is a popular method of fishing for Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna and other game fish.

Trolling can be done on any Alleycat trip, as well as on the dinghy inshore.

Live baiting

A specialist technique when Marlin fishing, usually done on a full day further offshore in areas such as the Rips.

Deep Jigging

Deep jigging, popping or bottom fishing

We have some great structure around Watamu and Malindi providing some ideal spots for popping for Giant trevalley and yellowfin tuna and also for deep jigging for Amberjack, Giant trevalley , Yellowfin tuna and a number of snapper and grouper species. I recommend a full day in order to cover as many spots as possible.

Salt-water Fly-fishing

A super exciting way to fish for Sailfish.

This can be done on either a long day or a short day. Primarily targeting Sailfish but Marlin and other game fish also available to the fly fisherman. Anglers must bring their own tackle and flies ,however we do have a back up fly rod available .

Motion sickness pills are usually available in the local chemists in Watamu, but if you are coming from further afield, you may have more of a selection from a bigger chemist.

There are a number of banks with ATM machines in Watamu, and many outlets accept credit cards (but not all). Kenya shilings, GB Pounds, and US Dollars are all widely accepted as well.

No, we fish with everyone from the complete beginner to professional skippers.
