A Day to Remember
August 16th 2017 My son Sean had asked if he could invite a few mates out for a days fishing, the idea was to spend the morning fishing for Yellowfin tuna then go and look for a marlin in the afternoon on the Watamu Banks.
By mid day we had a dozen nice tuna on board so we headed off to look for live baits on the banks.
Bait was everywhere and in no time we had 3 baits swimming behind the boat. 10 minutes later we were hooked up on a nice Black marlin that Owain Ashley managed to bring alongside the boat and we tagged and released the fish.
The other 2 live baits were in the tuna tubes on the back of the boat so we dropped them back in the water and almost instantly the closest bait was taken by another Black marlin that we hooked up but lost after a few spectacular jumps.
By now we only had 1 live bait left so we put it on the close tag line and headed towards the schools of bonito to catch some more bait, before we got anywhere near the schooling baitfish our live bait was taken and we were hooked up on another Black marlin. Sean managed to bring this Fish to the boat and again it was released. With about a hour of fishing time left we managed to get a couple more baits in the water and half a hour later young Kyle Forster had another marlin alongside the boat and tagged.
3 out of 4 Black Marlin in one afternoon, what a day.
